Welcome Back to the 2025–2026 School Year
From the Desk of Dr. Stephen Strachan, Principal
Hempstead High School – Home of the Tigers
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,
Welcome to Hempstead High School! We are excited to begin the 2025–2026 school year with great enthusiasm and high expectations. Whether you're joining us for the first time or returning for another year, I extend a warm welcome to each of you as we embark on another journey of learning, growth, and achievement.
Hempstead High School is a comprehensive high school with a proud tradition of academic excellence, athletic achievement, and strong community involvement. Our students benefit from an extensive variety of academic courses, athletic programs, and extracurricular activities, all supported by a talented and deeply committed staff.
At the core of all we do are our Core Values and Beliefs:
-
Preparation
-
Passion
-
Personal Growth
These principles guide our mission: to connect students with their passions, foster their personal development, and prepare them for success in a dynamic and ever-changing world.
Academic and Enrichment Opportunities
As you explore our HHS Programs and Course Catalogues (available under the "Documents & Links" tab), you’ll see the depth and diversity of opportunities available to our students. Whether your interests lie in the sciences, the arts, leadership, or athletics, there is a place for every student to thrive and be challenged. Our goal is to personalize each student’s educational path while instilling the confidence and character needed for success.
Code of Conduct and School Culture
Our Code of Conduct outlines the high expectations we hold for all members of our learning community. As Tigers, we are committed to being:
-
Honorable
-
Respectful
-
Responsible
These values help us build a school culture that is safe, inclusive, and focused on learning. We believe that by doing our best work today, we lay the foundation for future excellence.
Important Update: Cell Phone-Free School Environment
As many of you know, the New York State Department of Education has implemented a new statewide law requiring all public schools to enforce a cell phone-free learning environment beginning in the 2025–2026 school year.
At Hempstead High School, we are fully committed to complying with this mandate while maintaining a positive and supportive environment for our students. To facilitate this change:
-
Cell phone lockers will be surface-mounted throughout the school for secure storage.
-
Students bringing unapproved electronic devices to school do so at their own risk. We cannot be responsible for lost or damaged devices.
-
We encourage all families to discuss this policy at home to ensure student understanding and cooperation.
To support your preparation, we have made available the full Cell Phone Policy and a list of Frequently Asked Questions on our website. If you have additional concerns or would like to schedule a visit to our campus, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
We look forward to partnering with you to make this school year one of the most successful and enriching yet. Together, we will continue building a strong academic foundation, encouraging student excellence, and fostering a culture of integrity and growth.
Welcome back, and Go Tigers!
Sincerely,
Dr. Stephen Strachan
