NYS Regents Information

What Are Regents Examinations?

The New York State Regents Examinations are standardized assessments developed and administered by the New York State Education Department (NYSED). These exams measure scholar achievement in key subject areas and are required for a New York State high school diploma.

Diploma Requirements

  • Regents Diploma – Scholars must earn a minimum score of 65 or higher on required Regents Exams.

  • Advanced Regents Diploma – Scholars must pass additional Regents Exams as outlined by NYSED, including multiple Math, Science, and World Language assessments.

  • Local Diploma – Certain safety net options are available for eligible scholars as determined by NYSED regulations.

Exam Schedule

  • Regents Examinations are offered three times per year: January, June, and August.

  • The official statewide schedule is published by NYSED.

  • Hempstead High School will provide exact dates, times, and room assignments in advance of each exam period.

Exam Protocols

Admission

  • Scholars must arrive on time and bring valid photo identification.

  • No scholar may enter an exam room after the first 30 minutes of the test period.

  • Once admitted, scholars must remain for a minimum of two hours.

Materials

  • Only NYSED-approved materials are permitted.

  • Required materials (such as calculators for specific exams) will be communicated in advance.

  • All other notes, papers, or unauthorized items are strictly prohibited.

Electronic Devices

  • Cell phones and all electronic devices (including smart watches, headphones, and tablets) are prohibited in the testing room.

  • Devices must be turned off and stored prior to entry.

  • Use or possession of an unauthorized device will result in exam invalidation, as per NYSED regulations.

Conduct

  • Scholars must follow all instructions from proctors.

  • Communication with other scholars during the exam is not permitted.

  • Any violation of NYSED exam security rules will result in disciplinary action and may nullify exam results.
